Voice Therapy

Does your voice feel tired? Is it effortful to use your voice?

SPS of WNY offers voice evaluations and therapy to address impairments with vocal loudness, pitch, and quality. We’re here to help you get your voice back!

At SPS of WNY, we offer high-quality voice assessment and treatment for a variety of vocal fold pathologies including the following:

  • incomplete closure or vocal fold bowing

  • vocal cord dysfunction (VCD)

  • vocal fold paralysis or paresis

  • muscle tension dysphonia

  • vocal nodules

  • chronic cough/laryngitis

  • paradoxical vocal fold motion (PVFM)

After the assessment, an individualized vocal treatment program will be created to target the areas of deficit. This might include an exercise program to bulk up the vocal folds to achieve better closure, exercises and strategies to reduce laryngeal muscle tension, and/or reducing harmful vocal behaviors.

Caroline is a certified provider of SPEAK OUT!® treatment to patients throughout WNY. The SPEAK OUT!® program has established efficacy for treating voice and speech disorders in individuals with Parkinson’s disease with application to other neurological diseases. Together, the patient and speech-language pathologist complete speech, voice and cognitive exercises using a specialized workbook that Parkinson Voice Project provides to every person with Parkinson’s in the U.S. who is receiving SPEAK OUT! SPEAK OUT! emphasizes speaking with intent and converts speech from an automatic function to an intentional act.

The SPEAK OUT!® program is highly regarded in the medical and speech pathology communities and research studies have shown improvements in vocal loudness, intonation, and voice quality for individuals with Parkinson’s disease who have followed this treatment protocol.
